In 2014 we were saddened to lose our valued friend and trustee John Hughes. John devoted his life to animal welfare and set up the amazing sanctuary, Dogs Mountain, in the Philippines. Knowing the hardship this shelter would face while the estate was being settled our charity NoToDogMeat Foundation forwarded funds immediately and ran emergency fundraisers. We announced our fundraising effort to be closed in December last year and that the full amounts that had been raised had been sent and received at the sanctuary, enabling them to buy food and vaccinations. Since that date although the fund was officially closed some additional donations have been received.
Being part of the NoToDogMeat campaign was a decision John did not take lightly. It laid him open to criticism and abuse led by persons known to us who have been running a structured malicious campaign against our charity. When we launched the fundraiser they immediately stepped in to fuel rumours. Now they end the year with more false accusations, which in the words of his family have been “deeply distressing”. Our CEO, who the family can confirm was a “true friend” of John has spoken with them privately and they are horrified at comments on the Dogs Mountain page. They have put their full trust in us as a charity to disperse any residual amount raised for the purpose it was intended and they consider this matter to be closed.
